UES and Awkward Utopia:
The University of Florida’s University Economics Society (UES) is a group devoted to economic and intellectual inquiry, composed of individuals whose fields range from law and dentristy to philosophy and linguistics. It meets weekly on Tuesdays at 5:10 pm EST in Matherly 120. The meetings are devoted to discussion of topical and academic issues. UES is the only club on campus devoted to such discussion and debate. UES engages in several other activities as well, such as field trips, debates, soirees.
Awkward Utopia (AU) will be an on-line version of the same pursuits. The name arises out of several influences, but mostly a tongue in cheek reflection on left-wing visions of utopia and UES’s own famous weekly practice of “Awkward Introductions.” AU was created on Stardate 50510.1 by Christian Waugh and Bob Lotfinia on behalf of the University Economics Society.
