The Victory for Tolerance at Awkward Utopia

The Victory for Tolerance

Tolerance is a concept that requires balance. Taken to its extreme, the doctrine of tolerance can encompass any act, no matter how heinous. We don’t want a society that tolerant. Rather, in the United States, we want tolerance of viewpoints, ideas, discussions. Our tolerance doesn’t mean we have to like those viewpoints. It doesn’t even mean that we have to listen to or respect them. But I do think, if a viewpoint represents truth, that it means not having to say you’re sorry. In this context, the UF administration erred in my opinion by saying that the UF Law School Republicans had to apologize to the entire campus, not just to the students who alleged “harm” from flyers that weren’t speaking about them.

On FOXNEWS last night, Special Report with Brit Hume covered this case of intolerance for the Republican perspective on radical Islam. The full account of it can be found here. However, perhaps even more interesting, is the graphic.

The issue was on the front page of the Gainesville Sun today and apparently will be covered by the St. Petersburg Times tomorrow. The tide of popular opinion long ago swung toward our side. It is a victory that will be savored by the Republican groups, and for all those who stand to gain from freedom, for some time to come.
