Where are you??

The only posts in the past two weeks besides my own have been the outstanding meeting records written by Slade. What is going on? Blogging is so eaaaaaaaaaasy.

WANTED: Economist for Indonesian VP

That’s right: if you are an economist, and best of all, Indonesian, you just might have a shot at becoming Indonesia’s next Vice President! This seems more for show (a PhD degree in Indonesia is huge and people respond with deference to one), as is so much in the country, but who knows…

Regulating the Art World

Recently, the Salander-O’Reilly Galleries has made major news by mismanaging just about everything it could. Whether it was exorbitant rent for its townhouse gallery ($156,000/mo.) or losing millions of dollars worth of art, Salander screwed up. Big time. My impression, noted on my art blog, is that Salander was an entrepreneur who attempted a daring […]

Fodder for Future Posts

I think this may be a portal to some useful, research-based econoblogging on AU.

Economics of Witch-hunting

Emily Oster of UChicago wonders about economics giving rise to witch-hunting. (h/t cafe salemba)

Nuclear Reactors in Syria

We have all been receiving mixed signals for weeks now on the Israeli strike in Syria. Common sense indicates that Israel acted on reliable intelligence that something being built there posed a threat to its security. It is very unlike Israel to violate another country’s sovereignty without just cause in my opinion. For a good […]

Moving up in rankings

While, of course, we remain a top 30 blog at CurrencyTrading.net, we have broken the top 150 (out of 171 listed) in terms of Technorati rankings, which is really important. I think we were 164 a couple weeks ago. My hope is that we can maybe comment on some other blogs and make sure our […]

American Ancestry

Some time ago, I watched a fascinating program on PBS called “African American Lives.” Its focus was the varied, diverse origins of African Americans, and by proxy, other Americans. I watched rapt as several celebrities and scholars obtained the results of genetic admixture tests that revealed how much other genetic heritage they possessed beyond, or […]

Meeting Overview 10/23/07

This week’s topic: Global Warming and Gore’s Peace Prize

Jimmy G: There is fuzzy math/faulty logic employed in giving Gore a Peace Prize.
Harsha: Correction: He only won $700,000.
FC: According to Colbert, the market has spoken. The movie made money, global warming [gw] is real.
MM: The prize was political in nature. What has Al Gore done […]

New Friend: Aleksi Knuutila

We have a new blog linking to us! My new favorite Finn, Aleksi Knuutila, has linked us amongst us other renowned blogs such as Becker-Posner. Thanks Aleksi, we’ll be in touch — but first, you need to teach us some Finnish.

Moving in Twilight, Introduction

When trying to put my thoughts together regarding the likes of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, I used to always refer people to the Lord of the Rings. In Lord of the Rings, there are clearly delineated ages. If you also read The Silmarillion, Monocrat’s Middle-Earth reading of choice, then you can read about the […]

Worth Remembering

Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, USN, is worth remembering. So are his deeds. He will be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on Monday, October 22, 2007. He was a Navy SEAL, perhaps the most lethal type of human soldier to ever exist. Of course, the finest words ever spoken of the American soldier were those […]

Pottermania

It seems that Dumbledore, of all people, was a friend of Dorothy. Who knew.

Don’t Feed the Dinosaurs

Fred Thompson is moving his campaign at a glacial pace. He’s having trouble fundraising. A month ago, he stopped in Gainesville, greeted by myself and Moderate’s Ron Paul cohorts. Watch for this candidacy to go the way of the dinosaurs very soon.

Humanity’s Fairness

Article on how fairness may be genetic by Mankiw. I disagree that the solution is necessarily that it is genetic. I believe there are rather strong psychological factors that twins have which may come to bear on this issue.
