Paper Highlights at Awkward Utopia

Paper Highlights

Last UES meeting, unbidden, I confiscated about 14 papers from MAT224 and I posted any potentially salient points I found in the papers, eschewing regurgitating the math and for the most part methodology in favor of soundbites, conclusions, and guideposts for further research. We already know most of this, but there are cites which I think will come in handy. Here is the list of titles reviewed in the Education Research String:

  1. Intraschool Variation in Class Size
  2. Interpreting Instrumental Variable Estimates of Returns to Schooling
  3. Interpreting Sheepskin Effects in Returns to Education
  4. Does Teacher Testing Raise Teacher Quality?
  5. On the Efficiency of Standard Form Contracts
  6. Stock Options and Employees’ Firm-Specific Human Capital Under the Threat of Divestiture and Acquisition
  7. Benefits and Costs of Integrating Online Web to Principles of Economics
  8. Natives, the Foreign-Born and High School Equivalents: New Evidence on the Returns to the GED
  9. What’s a Dropout to Do? Coping with the Deterioration of the Low-Skilled Labor Market
  10. Estimating a Payoff to Attending a More Selective College: An Application of Selection on Observables and Unobservables
  11. Do CEOs Set Their Own Pay? The Ones W/O Principles Do
  12. Let’s go to court! Firing costs and dismissal conflicts
  13. Economic Considerations and Class Size
  14. School Reform in the 21st Century: A Look at the Effect of Class Size and School Vouchers on the Academic Achievement of Minority Students
