CNN “Glitch” at Awkward Utopia

CNN “Glitch”

The other day, a black x was flashed over Vice President Cheney’s face. I’m not posting this to write a long discourse on media bias, just to write a short version of my opinion that the X was not an accident. I’m not saying that it was a vast left-wing conspiracy, just that some producer in the room thought that it may be funny, and given the politics at CNN, thought that he could get away with a little prank. If thats the case, it speaks ill for the future of CNN, as it shows an environment where objectivity is not a priority (nothing new there). Of course, I could be totally wrong, and it could be just a computer malfunction like they are claiming, we will never know for sure. I’m just a little skeptical about anything involving cable news these days. So in any case what I’m trying to say is “CNN is covering up the fact that errors, computer or otherwise, had nothing to do with the ‘X’ incident, and that it was a deliberate joke on the V.P.” Discuss amongst yourselves.

    Eh. I believe CNN’s statement.

It is perfectly plausible that the X is used as a marker to cue the graphics used to switch between scenes.

I am, however, border line between believing whether it was a technical or operator error however. Switcher software and equipment is subject to errors just like any other machine, but so are humans.

Either way, I doubt that the switcher operator would purposefully miscue the transition, “just for kicks.” It’s his job to cue everything on time.

Ultimately, perhaps, I feel that he will do his job because if he doesn’t, and people find out that the mistake was indeed purposeful, CNN will be harmed and this person could be fired. That’s the market for you. So I suppose this is where my faith comes from.

Well, all good lies are plausable. I’m not sure if the flunky pushing buttons on the switchboard would be so faithful to his duties either. I know that I myself would not be immune from doing something of the like, becuase its pretty damn funny, especially if it was deniable and easily written off as a computer glitch. I just wouldn’t do it on live TV to the vice president. Well, maybe if John Edwards was the VP…..
